Biometric Flutter Plugin

A native Flutter plugin, written in Kotlin and Java, that integrates a DigitalPersona U.are.U 4500 USB fingerprint reader with Android apps for enrolment and verification. Built because no off-the-shelf integration existed for the hardware.

Biometric Flutter Plugin — target hardware

Overview

An in-premises enterprise app needed fingerprint sign-on through an external scanner, and nothing off the shelf could drive that hardware from Flutter. The plugin talks to the reader directly over the Android USB host stack, converts captures to ANSI/ISO templates with the SourceAFIS engine, and exposes a one-to-one match score to the Flutter app for enrolment and verification.

What I built

  • Raw image capture from the DigitalPersona U.are.U 4500 over Android UsbManager and UsbRequest, no vendor SDK.
  • Fingerprint templates in the interoperable ANSI/ISO format via SourceAFIS, with a 1:1 template-match score API.
  • Packaged as a federated Flutter plugin with a MethodChannel contract, so it drops into attendance kiosks, field-workforce tablets, or payroll sign-on.
